Frazer and his team use a variety of patented designs and materials for SOG knives and tools.
- SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.) uses patented mechanisms to apply a constant force to open the blade while also applying a variable force to close it. As you begin to open the blade, the constant opening force overcomes the closing force and the blade flips open.
- Arc-Lock uses an omega spring to lock the blade back as well as aid in opening. A minimum of moving parts aids reliability.
- Cryogenic Heat Treatment increases toughness and wear resistance using a process unique to SOG. The blade is frozen to under 300 degrees Fahrenheit and brought back to room temperature. This is a new process available on select 2009 models. See the interactive table below and filter on "Special Features" to see Cryogenic Heat Treated blades.
- Tactical Nylon Sheath is the standard sheath for many SOG knives. It includes an exterior pouch for an additional tool.
- San Mai Steel is three layers of steel sandwiched together like traditional Japanese swords. SOG San Mai blades use a combination of a hard core steel and softer outer layers to create extremely durable blades while maintaining edge flexibility.
- Compoung Leverage is a patented and trademarked mechanism used on SOG Multi-Tools to double the force of your grip.
